WhatsApp has received a new update via the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the current version to 2.22.13.9.
What’s new in this version of the game? For a future release, WhatsApp is working on the ability to read status updates immediately within the chats list!

We announced in April that WhatsApp was working on certain status update improvements, including the ability to open status updates directly from the conversations list!
The feature was discovered while developing WhatsApp Desktop beta, however it will also be available in WhatsApp beta for Android at a later date:

As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp is going to deploy a new version that will allow you to see who published a status update directly within the chats list, so you’ll always know when someone you’re conversing with has updated their status. This function can’t be turned off through WhatsApp’s settings.

It’s worth noting that the same feature was identified during the development of WhatsApp beta for iOS and will be available in the near future. This is also in the works for WhatsApp beta for Android, although we have no idea when it will be deployed. When the functionality is ready to be handed out to beta testers, I’ll write another blog.
