On the 4th of October, something out of the realm of possibilities just happened, social media is down. Social media down referring to only the major one own by Facebook. This is due to Facebook have a big chunk of social media platforms.

Facebook lost its hold on our social interactions at noon and has been trying to reconnect for hours. Users have been unable to receive or sent information with the message “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and will fix it as soon as we can.”  It became an issue when users seemingly had an internet connection but no idea what’s wrong with social media apps.

People have been in outrage with the feeling of the world having a stop for a couple of hours. It seems there is more to be said about most of our activities being hinged on conversations; with that social media as a part. Teenagers and young adults have a lot of time on their hands not knowing what to do with their faces out of their screens. Some business conversations have broken with no one knowing who is at fault. The adults also pointing a finger to the younger generation to how much social media takes from kids with them also find wanting because a major part of their conversations is being hinged on the apps. It seems is for us then.

Some Telecos have been sending messages to users to find alternatives to these platforms since internet usage has hit an all-time low. Again, society has been shown how fragile we are without some privileges. Others also don’t know what the big deal is? This goes for the few in the midst of us with little or no digital presence. The question is, “What Now, as we wait for it to be fixed”.
