There is an upcoming price hike in the YouTube premium family plan. The new price point and commencement were sent as mail to the various subscribers of the family plan. This becomes effective on November 21.
The price hike is across selected geographical areas the US, the UK, Argentina, and Canada. The family plan allows up to five members. It allows users to download videos for offline consumption, watch ad-free videos and play videos in the background. The price hikes are very dependent on your location since it’s different across various regions.
It is noted that Canada-based users were getting emails about the change in the monthly rate from CA$17.99 to CA$22.99 for the Premium family plan and US subscribers also had to pay around the tariff being raised from $17.99 per month to $22.99. UK users have a smaller increase with £2 taking prices from £17.99 t £19.99 for the family plan. The Argentines were not so fortunate with their prices moving up from ARS 179 per month ($1.17) per month to ARS 699 ($4.55). There is also an increase in individual plans from ARS 119 ($0.78) per month to ARS 389 ($2.53) per month.
The hikes affect users who moved from Google Play Music to YouTube Music. They will have to pay $22.29 from the current $14.49 but this takes effect next year in April. The hike in streaming services comes as no surprise as it cuts across from Disney+, Hulu, and Netflix among others.
