Following the release of a new feature that allows some users to apply a blur effect to images, we’re excited to announce a new feature in the works on WhatsApp Desktop beta: profile photos of group participants will appear within their groups in a future app update!

We posted a screenshot of a new feature in development in the article about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.18.0.72 update: profile photos of group participants within their groups. Indeed, we previously stated that WhatsApp intends to include such profile icons next to message bubbles in a future update of the iOS beta app.
The feature is still in the works on WhatsApp beta for iOS, but we have some good news for the desktop beta app today:

When receiving a message in a group, the profile photo of group members will appear, as shown in this screenshot. If a group member does not have a profile picture or if it is not available due to privacy settings, the default profile icon will appear, tinted with the same color as the contact name. It’s just a cosmetic change, but it might be useful to know who sent the message right away if there are duplicate contact names or the phone number isn’t saved in the address book.

This feature is still in development, so we don’t know when it will be available to users. When the feature is released on WhatsApp beta for Android, iOS, and Desktop, an additional article will be available on this website.
