We now know the date and time of the Delaware Court of Chancery trial in which Twitter is suing Elon Musk for allegedly trying to back out of the deal to purchase the company for $44 billion. Twitter agreed to the Musk team’s request for a start date of October 17th as long as the trial could be finished in five days earlier this week. An official timetable has already been released by Judge Kathaleen McCormick, and the trial will take place from October 17 to October 21.

There is finally one point on which all parties can agree, and journalists can start planning their fall holidays in Delaware. Initially, lawyers for each side argued over prospective start dates; Twitter desired a September trial while Musk’s lawyers preferred something in 2023. If only reaching consensus on the level of bot activity on Twitter and the true implications of having access to firehose data were that simple.

For Twitter, sooner is unquestionably preferable because the business has already accused Musk of sowing uncertainty and causing Q2 2022 profit figures that were weaker than those of the previous quarter. One more thing to be on the lookout for? In a special meeting scheduled on September 13 at 1 PM ET, Twitter’s shareholders will vote on the agreement. These activities are often regular, but practically everything about this deal has been out of the ordinary thus far.
