Facebook down: What has happened to Instagram and WhatsApp in major outage | The Independent

According to a rumor, WhatsApp for Android is testing a profile photo privacy feature that will allow users to hide their profile photographs from certain contacts.

The unique privacy setting could be used in conjunction with the current options to reveal your profile photo to everyone, all contacts, or nobody.

The change is believed to be part of WhatsApp’s expanded privacy settings, which will also include Last Seen and About status updates.

According to WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp beta tracker, WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.21.21.2 has references to the new profile photo privacy feature. According to a screenshot given by the source, the new privacy option for the profile photo would be My contacts except…, which is available alongside the existing Everyone, My contacts, and Nobody privacy options.

The new feature will allow you to pick specific contacts from the list of people who will be able to see your profile photo.

According to WABetaInfo, the My contacts except… option will not be limited to the profile photo privacy setting, but will also be available for Last Seen and About status updates.

Although WABetaInfo previously published an iPhone screenshot revealing the same unique privacy setting for the Last Seen option, it is still unclear whether the update will be limited to Android at first.

WhatsApp added the My contacts except… option to its Status function in 2017. In November 2019, the same option was added to the group privacy settings.

Despite the fact that the upgrade was discovered in a recent WhatsApp for Android beta release, it has yet to be made accessible to beta testers.

It’s also unclear whether WhatsApp would introduce the new bespoke privacy setting in stages, with profile images being the first to be added, followed by Last Seen and About status updates.
