Twitter, the popular social media platform allowing users to share short messages, images, videos, and more, has announced a major rebranding effort to change its name, logo, and features. The company says that the new name, X, reflects its vision of being an “exponential platform” that connects people across the world and empowers them to express themselves freely.
According to a press release, X will have a new logo that resembles a blue bird with an X-shaped tail, symbolizing the diversity and dynamism of its users. The company will also introduce new features to enhance the user experience and enable more creativity and engagement. Some of these features include:
- X Stories: A new way to share ephemeral content that disappears after 24 hours. Users can add stickers, filters, music, and text to their stories and view stories from their friends and favorite accounts.
- X Spaces: A new audio chat feature that allows users to join or host live conversations on various topics. Users can invite speakers, listeners, and co-hosts to their spaces and interact with them through reactions, polls, and direct messages.
- X Trends: A new personalized discovery feature that shows users the most relevant and popular topics, hashtags, and accounts based on their interests, location, and behavior. Users can also explore different categories and subcategories of trends and follow them for updates.
- X Reactions: A new way to express emotions and opinions on posts. Users can choose from a range of reactions, such as like, love, laugh, wow, sad, angry, and more. Users can also see how others reacted to a post and filter reactions by type.
- X Tips: A new way to support creators and causes on the platform. Users can send tips to their favorite accounts using various payment methods, such as credit cards, PayPal, cryptocurrencies, and more. Users can also receive tips from their followers and fans.
The company says that the rebranding will take effect in the next few months and that it will communicate with its users throughout the process. It also says that it will preserve the core values and features of Twitter, such as the 280-character limit, the retweet and quote tweet functions, the verification system, and the safety tools.
The rebranding comes at a time when Twitter faces increasing competition from other social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Clubhouse. The company hopes that by changing its name and identity, it will attract new users, retain existing ones and increase its revenue and growth.
