Soon, users of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp might only be able to access specialized features if they are ready to pay for them. According to a document obtained by The Verge, Meta is creating a new subsidiary dubbed New Monetization Experiences that would be entirely responsible for the company’s app’s paid features.

Wile It looks like the new section at Meta will be distinct from previous endeavors as Facebook and Instagram already have a lot of paid features that cater to creators, such as Stars, premium events, and various subscription goods. (Note: Meta had promised not to deduct a percentage from creator earnings before to 2023.)

It’s unclear what kinds of paid features might result from the endeavor, but John Hegeman, VP of monetization at Meta, told The Verge that the business is closely monitoring its competitors in the sector. Recently, Twitter, Snapchat, and Telegram have introduced monthly subscription plans that allow users to access premium content and other in-app benefits.

Paid features may be able to help Meta discover new non-advertising revenue streams. The company’s multibillion-dollar advertising division has recently suffered greatly as a result of changes to iOS privacy policies and a general economic slowdown that has also impacted its rivals.
