Facebook has announced today some major changes in its News Feed. The new features include letting them limit comment on their public posts to friends or even specific tagged people.

First of all, Facebook’s new feature already exists on Twitter: which is the ability to control what you share on the platform. Every time you post on your feed, the app is going to ask who can comment: everyone, friends, or profiles and pages you mention.

According to facebook they will also make it easier to reply to “in order mode”, with the latest posts displayed first.

Facebook company rejected this model in 2009, although the option remained hidden in a menu, in favour of using algorithms to rank the content shown.

Vice-president Nick Clegg of facebook on Wednesday,  said lack of transparency and information available to users had led to mistrust.

Facebook said they will also help you understand why you see suggested posts in News Feed.

These are some of the circumstance influencing the suggested posts in News Feed:

  • Location: You may see a suggested post based on where you are and what people near you are interacting with on Facebook.
  • Related topics: If you’ve recently agreed with certain topics on Facebook, it may suggest other posts that are related to that topic.
  • Related engagement: A post may be suggested for you if other people who interacted with the post also previously interacted with the same group, page, or post as you.

Although the changes will make it easier for you to understand what Facebook suggests, it doesn’t mean it will stop suggesting things altogether.

These features according to facebook are already available for Android users and it will be available for iOS users in the coming weeks
