WhatsApp continues to develop on a number of new features for Android, iOS, and the web. On WhatsApp Desktop beta today, the firm is releasing a new conversation filter that allows users to filter their chats by showing only those that have fresh incoming messages.

We published an article last month in which we discovered a new chat filter button under development on WhatsApp Desktop beta. In actuality, a chat filter tool is already available for businesses, but WhatsApp was aiming to make it open to everyone. WhatsApp is now providing a chat filter to users of the beta version of the Desktop client, however it differs from the one shown in the previous article:

WhatsApp had planned to offer various conversation filters in the previous few weeks, such as the ability to swiftly filter groups and non-contacts, but all we have now is an unread chat filter, as you can see in this screenshot. To turn off the filter, simply press the filter button again or select “Clear filter.”

Unfortunately, we do not know if WhatsApp plans to make more conversation filters available to everyone in the future, but if there is any new information, we will update this post. In the future, WhatsApp is working on adding the same capability to WhatsApp beta for Android and iOS.

The new unread chat filter is available today, so if you need it right now, utilize the beta version of the Desktop program.
