
Reports on criminals who are able to to unlock people’s iPhones and managing to access bank details in Brazil has been arrested by São Paulo state police.
Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo, stated in their newspaper that four men were arrested yesterday and accused of teaming a specialized gang in unlocking mostly iPhones, accessing users’ bank accounts, and then stealing their money.
São Paulo police said these are the most famous and sophisticated gangs operating in São Paulo city, based in the downtown region.
These criminals are able to exploit smartphone security vulnerabilities and even bypass Face ID, Touch ID, which is the most secure way to prevent people accessing stolen iPhones and alphanumeric passwords using specialized software.
According to Police Chief Roberto Monteiro, with the Sao Paulo state police said these criminals bought their pirate software used in bypassing and extracting iPhones data through the deep web.
“From the moment they managed to unlock the phones, the gang evaluate what’s inside of them. If the people have bank account information, they use another software to take off the data and then start to steal their money,” said Police Chief.
The São Paulo state police teamed up with Over 80 police officers, 10 specialized teams, 38 cars, and with the help of a police air unit and three teams of Metropolitan Civilian guard members.
They were able to access the hidden location reported to be the number one place to unlock iPhones.
These criminals were arrested by the police.
Apple has promised the Brazilian authorities that it will make it easier for users to delete all data from a stolen iPhone.
However, the company did not give details of what exactly it will implement.
According to Apple with the released of iOS 15, users will be able to track their lost iPhone even if is powered off or factory reset using the Find My app, which could also help.
