
Whatsapp users who haven’t accepted the new privacy policy for the messaging platform will start to get continues reminders after the 15 May deadline given by Whatsapp.
According to Whatsapp the new update for the privacy is mainly for data collection using the platform to interact with business on its parent company Facebook.
The new privacy policy was announced in January this year, but users has been raising issues about why Whatsapp wants to share data with its parent company, Facebook but there wont be any changes.
The company will go ahead and deploy the new update which the deadline is on Saturday May 15. 2021.
According to the statistics released by the company almost 2 billion users had accepted the new terms and conditions policies already.
Whatsapp said users who failed to accept the new policy update will be limited to certain functionalities on the platform which will also prevent users from getting incoming calls or notification as well as users wont be able to receive messages on the platform.
When Whatsapp announced the new terms and condition and following a tweet from Tesla CEO Elon Musk about Signal app, users decided to stop Whatsapp and use Signal platform which according to statistics Signal platform has recorded about 50,000,000+ downloads on Google PlayStore and about 90,000+ as at June 1st on AppStore.
Whatsapp responded to the information about its privacy and data sharing by saying it was a misinformation and their messages uses end-to-end encryption, which makes it difficulty for a third party to read messages from different devices.
WhatsApp listed some infromation about data that will be shared with its parent company Facebook for business interaction which includes:
- Phone number and other information the user provides during registration (such as name).
2. Users’ phone number, model, and mobile company.
3. When users make payments and financial transactions over WhatsApp.
4. IP address, which will provide user GPS location.
Europe and UK are not part since they have different privacy law.
