We published information about some updates to the WhatsApp beta app for Android and iOS at the end of October regarding the ability to send messages to oneself. Actually, sending messages to your own phone number has always been possible, but the WhatsApp beta for Android chat window had to be opened by using the click to WhatsApp feature. Finally, WhatsApp has just made this feature available to some beta testers:

As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp is making it simpler for you to start a chat with your own phone number. To check if the feature is already available for you, open your contacts list. If your WhatsApp account has the feature enabled, you can now open a chat with your own phone number directly from your contacts list.

In addition, the following information is provided regarding using your own phone number to send messages to the chat:

Your own chat and the messages you send to yourself finally appear on all of your connected devices, as was mentioned in the previous article about the improvements for sending messages to yourself.
Today, some iOS beta users might also get the same feature. When the rollout is expanded to include more iOS beta testers, there may be an announcement where you can find some additional information.
Some beta testers have received the ability to start a chat with their own phone number directly from their contacts list, and more users will get it over the next few days.
