Twitter will shutdown Fleets, which is the row of full screen tweets at the top of the Twitter timeline that expire after 24 hours similar to Whatsapp status and Instagram Stories.

According to Twitter they are shutting down because of low usage after launching Fleets features in just eight months ago.

The social media giant company said they will shutdown Fleets on August 3rd.

Twitter users will only see active spaces and Twitter’s live audio chat rooms at the top of their timelines.

And the composer for traditional tweets will be updated with more camera editing features from Fleets, like text-formatting and GIF stickers over photos.

Twitter’s decision to shutdown Fleets just shows that the feature didn’t work.

So they are removing them and focusing on improving other parts of Twitter.

Twitter took their social media handle to announce the shutting down of Fleets.

Twitter further said “We had planned for Fleets to help people feel comfortable joining the conversation in a low-pressure way, but it turns out Fleets were mainly used by those Tweeting the most. So now we’re ready to explore other ways for people to share on”

We learned a lot from Fleets and we’re excited to focus on newer and better ways to start conversations on Twitter.

We’re proud of the work so far and have no plans of slowing down.

Twitter concluded by saying “it’s not always easy to say goodbye to a feature like Fleets, but we’re excited to get back to work on what we’ve got planned next”
