Last week, Apple launched iOS 15 and the iPhone 13 to the general public, and a few early issues have surfaced since then. iPhone 13 customers are already flocking to Reddit and Twitter to complain about touch screen responsiveness concerns with their new devices. Surprisingly, the issue appears to be present on earlier iPhones running iOS 15 as well.
Users on Reddit claim that their iPhone 13 touch screen fails to respond to touch on both the public release of iOS 15 and the iPhone 15.1 beta. The problem impacts the iPhone’s tap to wake feature as well as how it interacts with other components of the iOS interface.
Initially, it appeared that this was a glitch that only affected the new iPhone 13 models. Users of earlier iPhones have reportedly reported encountering the same issue after updating to the public version of iOS 15 last week, according to posts on Twitter (via MacRumors). This indicates that the iPhone 13 is most likely affected by a software defect in iOS 15, rather than a hardware issue.
In most circumstances, a reboot of the damaged iPhone appears to be the solution. Some users have discovered that they can simply tap the display repeatedly to “wake” it up.
Apple is presently beta testing iOS 15.1, however the touch responsiveness issue appears to be still present in the latest release. However, iOS 15.1 beta 2 fixes the Apple Watch Unlock issue that was impacting iPhone 13 users.
It’s unclear whether Apple will release an iOS 15.0.1 update to address some of the early issues plaguing iOS 15 and iPhone 13 customers. It’s also possible that Apple plans to include all of the changes, as well as SharePlay, in iOS 15.1.
