Some lucky beta testers on WhatsApp beta for Android are now able to view status updates within the chat list, after the release of some upgrades for status updates, such as the ability to reply to status updates by selecting one of 8 available emojis.
The ability to read status updates from within the chat list is a new feature that WhatsApp is currently working on, and we covered the details in the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.13.9 update.
Although the functionality was in development, it wasn’t released for very long; in fact, WhatsApp is giving this feature to some beta testers right now!
When a contact uploads a new status update, it will also be shown in the chat list, as seen in this photo. Simply tap their profile picture to view the status update!
You can just mute all status updates so they won’t appear in the chat list if you don’t even submit or view status updates and you don’t like this feature.
This functionality is currently being rolled out by WhatsApp to a select group of beta testers, with additional activations scheduled for the upcoming weeks. It should be noted that since this functionality has already been made available to WhatsApp beta testers on Android, it may soon be made available to certain iOS beta testers as well.
