Today, WhatsApp is releasing the “View Once” feature, which deletes photographs and videos from your message after the recipient has opened them.

When submitting a photo or video, tap the “1” button to the left of the send button to make it view once. It will be erased once the recipient has opened it.

Because the recipient will be able to see that it’s a disappearing photo, you should only send it to someone you trust not to take a screenshot.

Mark Zuckerberg stated the feature will be arriving in June, though he didn’t say when it would be available.

The feature has been in beta for roughly a month, according to WaBetaInfo.

The recipient will be left with a bubble simply saying “opened.”

WhatsApp provides the example of transmitting a photo containing sensitive information, such as a Wi-Fi password, to demonstrate how the functionality could be utilized.

Of course, this type of functionality may have other, less nutritious applications.

In any case, having a choice between the app’s disappearing messages, which presently only erase after a week, and your chat’s permanent record is beneficial.
